December!

Oh my gosh I have been neglecting this blog for such a long time. Sorry everyone but time has just flown by. I love Christmas and this year has been different than other Christmases because this past year we moved to New Jersey and this will be my first ever Christmas without my family. However I have been soooo busy I haven't had time to miss them too much. In July I was asked to cater a dessert buffet for around 600 people. My initial thought was HECK YES! Then November came and I have been baking and preparing and the worst thing ever SHOPPING. The event turned out better than planned it was beautiful. I was so lucky because my sister and friend Loree helped out so much. We ended up having 16 different desserts. WOW!!! That's all I have to say. Oh and wait for it..........I want to start catering.

Pugh-Haul

Wow do you ever have those weeks that just pass by so fast? Well these past few weeks have been that way for me. In the meantime I have managed to get in a few cakes/cupcakes but this one is The Pugh Haul. We have some friends who were moving to Utah that just happened to have the last name of Pugh. So as their going away cake I made a Pugh Haul. It was tons of fun. It is a lemon-orange cake with whipped cream and vanilla butter cream covered in fondant.

The cupcakes were vanilla whith vanilla buttercream and fondant animals.

Crazy Week

This week was in one word CRAZY!!!!! I had tons of stuff to do, my battery in my car died, not to mention the cakes I had to do. The first was for an activity at church that talked about modest clothing it was a modest dress and fifty cupcakes. This day was so insane I had and hour to decorate the cake and fill and frost the fifty cupcakes. Then Thursday I had my final cake decorating class (yes, I finished them all, now maybe I will teach.... we will see). So for my final class I made a baby shower cake for a friend. Then today was my daughters birthday so I made a treasure chest in about 1/2 an hour. This was not the best looking but oh it tasted soo good (I might just go have a piece now). So this week I made lemon, white, and chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream, oreo filling, strawberry filling, chocolate butter cream, and cheesecake butter cream. Like I said crazy!

The force was NOT with me!

All I would like to say about this cake is it was not a fun one. It wasn't so much the design as it was just one of those cakes where everything went wrong. I ruined two batches of fondant, the rice crispies wouldn't stay together, the face and body started cracking and it was all over just a mess. Then to make matters worse my husband came home and told me it looked like E.T. So I changed the ears and decided it was the best I could do. This was a vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream.

Choose Juicy!

Another fun cake to design. A purse and shoes! It was crazy how easy this one was.It took some time but it was not stressful at all (until the very end). I had this cake completely ready then went out to get some lunch. On my way back my husband called and and said he was just walking by and the handles broke in three pieces (that's his story anyway). So I rushed home and had about two minutes to make some new handles. Needless to say the cake with the new handles was not as cute as the pictures but it still turned out ok. This was vanilla pound with vanilla syrup and vanilla butter cream and covered in vanilla and chocolate fondant. Everything was edible.

WWE

This past weekend has been so much fun! Not only because of mothers day (which was the best ever) but also because I got to do this WWE cake.I know it doesn't seem like the funnest cake ever but I loved it because it took me back in time. I loved drawing in high school but after getting married and having kids there just wasn't time to draw. With this cake I got to free hand the belt signs it was so much fun. I think the best thing about making cakes is I get to develp my artist abilities while also baking. Its the best of both worlds!

Tangled 2

After seeing the first tangled cake I did a friend wanted me to do one for her daughter. The bottom of this one was a yellow cake with vanilla pudding and on the top was chocolate with vanilla pudding. I was really worried with this one because I made it taller than the other one and my support structure wasn't the best so it could have fallen right over! Luckily it didn't and cute Ellie had a Tangled cake.

P.S. This cake was around two feet tall!!!

BoyOhBoy

Went to a baby shower this weekend and volunteered to make the cake. I have been wanting to make a pram (which is the cute little stroller) forever so I did! It turned out pretty good I have to say. I'm getting better and better with every cake I do.This cake was white cake with french vanilla pudding and butter cream icing.

Introducing........

CAKE POPS! The newest fad out there in relation to cakes. Recently everyone is making cake pops so to keep up with the trends I decided to give it a try. These sweet little puppies go for 1.50 each with a minimum order of 12. They come all neat and wrapped up it their own little bag just like the picture.

I also did a fun dog cake for a cute little girls birthday. This cake was chocolate with a chocolate chip buttercream filling and a buttercream icing. It was completly edible even the little dog food which is really cocoa puffs. Loved it!

Decorating Classes

For the past two weeks I have been attending cake decorating classes at Michael's. I know your probably thinking it's a little late to be taking the beginner classes but let me tell you I am learning so much. First they taught me the most amazing butter cream recipe (which I needed cause all my butter cream turns out weird and melts right off the cakes). They are also teaching us techniques I had no idea existed. So I am well on my way to having awesome cakes. Anyway due to this awesome class I have made my first pure butter cream cake. Here are pics. Not too bad for the first one eh.

The Girls

Where were my girls, you ask, while I was busy making all these valentines treats. Welllll they were right there helping me. They love when I get out my baking stuff because that means they get to help. And by help I mean lick the bowls, use fondant like its playdough, and make a huge mess! Here is a pic.

Valentines Day

I went crazy for valentines this year and made a ton of cupcakes, some rice crispy pops, and a huge cake.

First Cake of 2011

It's a Girl

In the past couple of weeks my family has been relocating to New Jersey. During this time I signed up to do a baby shower for a friend. Luckily someone else took over the baby shower but I wanted to do the cake. So right before I moved I made this cute baby shower cake! It was relly insane because all of my stuff was packed up, the baby shower was at 10 in the morning, and I was making it at my parents house which if anyone knows my family is like a three ring circus. HOWEVER I managed to do it. I couldnt get over the little feet they were so cute!

I made this fun birthday cake for my nieces birthday. They had a combined birthday so on one side I put Madison and on the other Samantha. The top was red velvet with cream cheese frosting and the bottom was white almond sour cream with chocolate frosting. It was soooooo good. Thanks Becca for the recipe!
